A local school near Horsham is now looking for a Forest School Practitioner to join the team and inspire pupils as part of their Outdoor Learning and Forest School provision.
This school is dedicated to offering a specially-tailored, bright and fun learning environment for children and young people (aged 3-19 years old) with impaired mobility, communication and other specialist needs to flourish in their academic, physical and social-emotional skill development.
Outdoor learning offers pupils the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills, self-belief and appreciation of nature through exploration and discovery within the natural environment.
As a Forest School Practitioner, you will plan, prepare and deliver practical outdoor sessions that allow for pupil-led learning. Through woodland-related lessons and projects, you will encourage pupils to build resilience and motor skills, to understand and care for the world around them, and to challenge themselves in a supportive and inclusive setting.
You will also be involved in the maintenance of the woodland and other outdoor teaching areas, to ensure risk management / health and safety requirements for these sessions are met.
This is a permanent, full-time (37.5h) role for a Forest School Practitioner, term-time only.
Person specification:
• (Essential) Experience delivering Forest School/outdoor education sessions for children and young people
• (Essential) Excellent understanding of health and safety requirements and policies in relation to outdoor learning
• (Desirable) Level 3 Forest School qualification or willingness to earn
• (Desirable) Specific experience working with children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities
• (Desirable) Qualifications or licences in relevant woodland activities such as chainsaw use, brush cutting, horticulture/gardening, woodland management
