Applications are invited for a fixed-term, full-time Research Technician working in the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences.

The technician position will support the investigation of bacteriophages (phages) against bacteria associated with chronic wound infections and biofilms at Bangor University with BioMonde Ltd. This important project will isolate phages from water samples, including untreated wastewater, and develop and test new phage-based treatments that can tackle otherwise untreatable chronic wound infections.

The technician will be responsible for culturing clinically relevant chronic wound pathogenic bacteria, i.e.: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococci and E. coli, and isolating phages against these bacteria. Duties will include media preparation and long-term storage of bacteria and phages. They will undertake testing of BioMonde-developed chronic wound preparations with phages. Formulate and test different mixes of phages and chronic wound preparations. The technician will input data and carry out necessary analyses using computer software and will be responsible for quality assurance and data handling.

They will also support the maintenance of laboratory activities daily as and when required.

Candidates should be educated to A level or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) and have previous experience of assisting research groups in a laboratory environment.

This role will be located on campus at Bangor in the School of Environmental and Natural Science with travel to BioMonde Ltd, Bridgend.

The post is fixed term for one year and the successful candidate will be expected to commence on the 1st April 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
