Our client is a leading manufacturer specializing in rubber rolls, moldings, and engineered solutions. They serve various industries including mining, quarrying, material handling, mineral processing, and the food, pharmaceutical, and printing sectors. They are now expanding their workshop team and are seeking a Lathe Operative to join them in delivering high-quality rubber covering and related services.
The Role:
As a Rubber Roll Manufacturer / Centre Lathe Operator / Rubber Coverer, you will play a key role in the production of rubber-covered rollers and wheels. You will work as part of a team to carry out the covering, turning, and grinding of rubber rollers, while developing a wide skill set across various workshop tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with steel and aluminum rolls, as well as steel plates.
- Strip old rubber from substrates with center lathes.
- Turn and grind rubber rollers with center lathes and grinders.
- Prepare surfaces and apply bonding agents as necessary.
- Perform shotblasting to clean and prepare metal surfaces for bonding or coating processes.
- Cut and prepare rubber to meet customer job specifications.
- Apply rubber in various formats to different substrates.
- Operate and manage vulcanizing processes, including both hot and cold bonding.
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience as a manual lathe operator.
- Experience working with manual center lathes is essential.
- Full UK Driving License.
- Forklift and/or lifting certification (optional but desirable).
- A proactive, team-oriented attitude, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently where required.
- A flexible and positive approach to working overtime, including weekends if necessary.
Working Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Friday: 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM
