We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Physical Education Teacher to manage and lead a team of teaching staff within West Calder High School to ensure high quality teaching and learning, which will result in all pupils achieving their full potential.

The post-holder will be an active member of the school management team, who will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of effective teaching and learning policies and procedures within the PE Department. Within this context the post-holder will negotiate, monitor and evaluate teaching and learning experiences within the classroom. The PT will operate in a collegiate manner in a very obvious quality assurance role to establish the most effective teaching and learning environments possible within all classrooms.

The post-holder will have responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning within the allocated areas. In this role the post-holder will be aware of the wide range of background theories/practices/research information on teaching and learning strategies now available to teaching staff; be able to initiate professional discussion of its appropriateness; and ensure its incorporation into effective methodology in the classroom.

The post-holder will have significant relevant experience as a teacher who has achieved the very highest status as an excellent classroom teacher. A sound knowledge of current national curricular developments and teaching and learning theory and practice will be required. Evidence of a clear ability to implement and evaluate such methodology will also be of critical importance.

A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment and the cost will be met by the candidate.

The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59 or Existing Member is £18.
