Join our team as a Relief Shop Manager!

Are you looking for a varied retail role? Want to work for a charity? Interested in recycling and the circular economy? We’re recruiting a Relief Shop Manager to join our retail relief team.

This position will provide vital support to our shops, so we can continue to raise funds for our services that help patients and their families throughout Oxfordshire.

Working flexibly within the retail relief team to ensure the continued smooth operation of all Sobell House Hospice Charity shops across Oxfordshire during periods of manager absence. You will act as the Manager on duty, driving sales, merchandising, stock rotation and excellent customer service during periods of cover as we continue to raise funds for and promote the work of Sobell House Hospice within the community.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
Trading
• To drive retail income through sales of donated and bought in goods to achieve daily sales budgets
• To ensure all shop procedures are followed in the absence of the Shop Manager including opening and closing at agreed times
• To ensure that the highest standard of customer service is delivered for customers and donors
• To maximise potential claimable Gift Aid income by promoting the Gift Aid scheme as appropriate
• To provide support and operational guidance to the duty teams including assistant staff and volunteers

Stock and Merchandising
• To ensure that donation and sorting processes are managed effectively in line with shop and hospice operating guidelines
• To maintain a high standard visual merchandising in line with SHHC guidelines
• To ensure that any marketing guidance is implemented in line with SHHC brand guidelines
• To research and identify suitable items for sale via Hospice Online platforms eg. eBay, Amazon
• To ensure new goods are recorded accurately on the EPOS system as required during periods of cover i.e. sales, stock takes and transfers

Administration and General
• To ensure that all income is recorded correctly through the till and that handling of all monies is completed in line with financial policies and procedures
• To undertake the relevant operational administrative processes whilst acting as manager on duty
• To have knowledge of Sobell House Hospice’s services to respond to staff and customer queries
• To attend all mandatory and relevant training or meetings as identified by the Hospice/ Director of Retail

Health and Safety and Premises
• To ensure a high standard of tidiness, cleanliness and general housekeeping throughout the shop, keeping all back-office areas clean, tidy and well organised
• To remain abreast of all risk assessment procedures incl accident and incident reporting, first aid, fire and emergency situations, and implement changes or updates as required whilst in store
• To notify the Estates and Facilities Manager of any defects or maintenance requirements
• To be aware of relevant Health and Safety processes, including all risk assessments and safe standards of working within the store
• To hold shop keys and ensure that duty premises are secured at all times

Other Duties
Embody the values of Sobell House Hospice Charity, comply with all policies and procedures and carry out any other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Retail.

We expect all staff and volunteers to comply with our policies and procedures and to attend all relevant training, as required. These obligations include adhering to the following:
• The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The post holder is required to conform with our policies on Health and Safety and Fire Prevention.
• Confidentiality and Data protection, including General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
• Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children: it is the duty of all staff working for SHHC to safeguard children and vulnerable adults
