Group Finance plays a pivotal role in the financial management of DfT and this is an exciting opportunity to build your knowledge and gain a professional qualification whilst helping us deliver real value for money to the taxpayer.

We can teach you the tasks you may not be familiar with, but you should be comfortable working with people, systems, numbers and data. You will collaborate with our stakeholders from various teams and departments and deliver exceptional customer service.

Finance Operations (FO) provides a range of core services to the whole of DfT, covering Finance, HR and Commercial functions. FO drives continuous improvements in operational and financial management and supports high-profile programmes that help staff at DfT deliver more efficiently and effectively.

Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills set out in the Civil Service Line Management Standards. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Aim to clear 90% of all requests/queries to the Service Desk within 5 working days.
  • Manage the enquiries inbox which provides the first point of contact for queries by providing a timely response to our customers.
  • Maintain the Delegations and Authority lists to ensure the correct framework is in place for officials to transact their business.
  • Contribute to the Government-wide finance whilst providing support to DfT Special Requisitioners, Finance Business Partners, contract managers and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide specialist finance advice to the business including any training and signpost guidance.
  • Perform system tests for new finance processes to be deployed into the business.
  • Ensure all day-to-day finance processes have guidance notes and documents that are kept up to date.
  • Ensure that monthly, quarterly, and statutory Reports and returns are accurate and timely.
  • Manage other ad-hoc projects or wider teamwork.
  • Responsible for a small team
