Handyman / Technician

Working hours - 8.00am - 5.00pm

Pay Rate - £16.50-£18.00 depending on experience

Job Purpose:

Provide engineering support for building maintenance at the DESPI PFI Contract. Ensure smooth operations, compliance with regulations, and effective troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all building systems and follow safety and sustainability policies.
  • Ensure 100% uptime for critical systems and proper shift coverage.
  • Respond to plant failures and complete assigned work efficiently.
  • Operate building systems, including high-voltage (HV) operations.
  • Oversee service providers' work quality and escalate issues as needed.
  • Conduct shift handovers, plant inspections, and housekeeping checks.
  • Order parts and handle purchase requisitions effectively.
  • Keep work areas organised and ensure tools are maintained.
  • Follow escalation procedures and manage emergency situations.
  • Maintain records, including safety logs, plant checks, and compliance inspections.

Technical Expertise:

Ability to operate and troubleshoot:

  • Building management and control systems
  • Air conditioning, heating, and ventilation (AHUs, boilers)
  • Generators, UPS, and electrical systems (single-phase, three-phase)
  • HV and LV switching operations (training provided)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong technical knowledge in building services, including BEMS, UPS, generators, and HVAC.
  • 5+ years of experience in building maintenance.
  • HV Authorised Person certification.
  • City & Guilds Level 1 & 2 or equivalent in electrical/mechanical discipline.
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations certification.
  • Basic IT skills and experience with PFI contracts preferred.
  • Basic DBS required

Competencies:

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work proactively and manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience in small project work, quoting, and reporting.
