Clinical The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to provide perioperative anaesthetic care to patients with congenital heart disease having elective and urgent cardiac surgical procedures with and without cardiopulmonary bypass; cardiac diagnostic and interventional catheter procedures; cardiac radiological imaging; children needing essential procedures like long term vascular access, long term enteral feeding and other procedures needed for ongoing clinical care of these patients. The successful candidate will be expected to provide support to general anaesthesia consultant colleagues in caring for children with congenital heart disease having various non cardiac surgical and diagnostic procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake general anaesthetic lists, alongside the cardiac activity, as part of their job plan. Interests of potential applicants will be encouraged, and sessional commitments may vary accordingly. All theatre sessions are regularly reviewed by the Theatre Management Team according to the needs of service so that sessions may change. Demand for emergency surgery is extremely high and therefore it is expected that any unallocated theatre time may be reallocated to accommodate emergencies during normal working hours. Teaching & Academic role Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates. Develop research interests in their area of interest and expertise. Managerial responsibilities Supervise junior staff. Participate in departmental meetings related to strategic planning. Take an active role in service review and development. CPD, Audit & Clinical Governance Participate in CPD activity for which financial support is available. Initiate and undertake appropriate audits as required within the department. Take part in the clinical governance programme.
