Job Title:
Transfer Station Operative
Job Description:
To work as part of a team performing duties at the Transfer Station as deemed necessary (including manual handling/lifting). It is a varied role that requires a reliable and conscientious individual who is comfortable taking on a varied workload. You will be expected to work in the outside yard as well as working under the new covered Transfer Station, irrespective of the weather.
Duties: This will/may include:
• Carry out duties in the Transfer Station as directed to include unpacking, repacking and bulking of various wastes (basic admin skills required to record work done)
• Bulking of liquid wastes as directed, by decanting or pumping waste from smaller containers into larger containers
• Loading and unloading vehicles delivering waste
• Housekeeping including sweeping and tidying the yard or cleaning vehicles
• Use of the Road Sweeper
• Use of the Forklift truck(s)
• Operating machinery to crush or shred wastes
• Repacking and labelling wastes under instruction and guidance by the Yard Manager or other William’s personnel
• Act as a driver’s mate to assist other William’s personnel when requested to do so and attend spillage clearances off site
• Adhere to all safety regulations precautions and procedures
• PPE will be provided, the wearer must look after all such equipment
• Preparing lists of shipments to go off site
• Stock control, keeping lists up to date of the wastes stored in the 18 storage bays
• Acting as a Banksman to enable safe reversing of vehicles into the Transfer Station
Qualifications /Experience:
Ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.
Flexibility to work a shift system with basic hours of 8am to 5pm and 11am to 8pm. The flexibility required by the candidate(s) also allows for occasional working out of hours when requested to do so should a vehicle arrive late or work not be completed in time.
Forklift experience (desirable but not essential to start the job).
Driving licence (desirable but not essential).
Ability to work in all types of weather.
