Job Overview
To work on the Ascension Island Base in the catering section providing front of house service for all meals and functions. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards of the areas of responsibility. Displaying customer care with a strong emphasis on service delivery. Maintaining high standards of personal presentation, and ensuring all COSHH, Health and Safety regulations pertinent to the position are met.
Main Duties
-To maintain high standards of personal hygiene and presentation conducive to a front of house environment.
-To provide the highest standard of dining room service (of both food and beverage) as directed by the Head Steward/Soft Services Manager.
-Maintain cleanliness of the dining room, bar and associated areas by completing all tasks allocated on the cleaning schedule.
-To assist with refreshment services and functions at other locations, for example the Airport and Base Commander's residence.
-To assist the Head Steward in function preparation.
-To ensure the correct use, storage, and control of machinery, equipment, cleaning materials and chemicals, ensuring that safe systems of work are followed at all times.
-Immediate reporting of any defects to your line manager.
-Ensure that tables are laid and that clearance is effective ensuring that the dining environment is clean and free from debris and dirty crockery at all times.
-To ensure that the replenishment of condiments, bread rolls, tea and coffee etc is maintained throughout meal service.
-To ensure all condiments are replenished daily.
-To ensure that crockery, cutlery, EPNS cutlery and table Silver is checked for cleanliness before use.
-Compliance to the Health and Safety Act, Food Safety Act and COSHH regulations.
-Maintenance of the company Quality Control Procedures. To develop your own skills within the scope of this position.
-Be familiar and comply with the Company's Health & Safety policy and procedures.
-To work as a Kitchen Assistant or Customer Service Assistant during periods of staff shortage

-Basic Food Safety training
-Ability to carry out task quickly and competently.
-Prepared to work un-social hours.
-The role may include some form of strenuous physical activity; therefore, the incumbent must have the ability to undertake such duties.
-Will be well-organized, a motivated team player who is keen to learn.
-Has a ‘can do' mature attitude, is flexible, reliable and self-motivated; will have an open approach, pass on knowledge, their experience and show willingness to assist others.
-Will develop positive, supportive working relationships with team and colleagues.
-Able to deal effectively with sensitive issues.
-Has ability to work on own with minimal supervision and will take responsibility for own actions.
-Will prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

-Capable of recording work accurately on work sheets.
-Willingness to undertake further training if required.
Additional Details
Mitie will pay a competitive salary, monthly site allowance and bonus. Hours of work are 48 per week. The contract duration is 24 months with 80 days leave excluding weekends. There will be an entitlement to the Ascension Island Bank Holidays. Flights will be arranged to and from Ascension Island for agreed holiday periods. The position is unaccompanied, single accommodation on Travellers Hill, 3 meals at the Combined Mess, all corporate work wear and PPE included. Must be capable of obtaining MoD basic level security clearance, eVisa from the Ascension Government, be declared medically and dentally fit to work on Ascension Island.
