Crynodeb
The post holder will work as part of a consultant-led team looking after inpatients on the respiratory ward (Manvers). The 33 patients on the respiratory ward (Manvers) are looked after by a minimum of 2 registrar grade and 4 other (SHO/FY1) staff members at all times, divided into two teams led by a separate consultant. There are often more clinical staff on the wards depending on annual leave, study leave and on call commitments. These patients have conditions such as lung cancer, COPD, asthma, respiratory infections (e.g. pneumonia, TB, bronchiectasis), pleural disease (pneumothorax, effusions and empyaemas), respiratory failure, interstitial lung disease and other general medical conditions. The post holder will participate in daily board and ward rounds, complete jobs from the ward round, and attend weekly radiology meetings. They will be expected to be able to: Take a history and examine a patient Identify and synthesise problems Prescribe safely Keep an accurate and relevant medical record Manage time and clinical priorities effectively Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care Act in a professional manner at all times Cope with ethical and legal issues which occur during the management of patients with general medical problems Educate patients effectively Teach junior colleagues and medical students See attached job description for further details.
