An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the nursing team on Ruby Ward, Shaftesbury clinic, forensic inpatient services, located at the Southwest London and St. Georges Mental Health Trust, Tooting, London. We have a large and supportive nursing team consisting of the deputy ward managers, staff nurses and healthcare assistants working in collaboration with other professionals constituting the multidisciplinary team, MDT.

The ward is a 10-bed female Medium Secure Unit currently located on the Springfield Hospital site. We are a medium secure female forensic unit in Shaftesbury Clinic, providing specialised multi-disciplinary care to the female mentally disordered offenders. We are also part of the South London Mental Health Partnership (with SLAM and Oxleas) and Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services sharing learning, expertise and innovation and improve the quality of care and treatment of service users and the development of staff.

We provide short- and long-term hospital admissions to female patients suffering from serious mental health problems such as psychotic illness, bipolar affective disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. We also provide admission under the Mental Health Act within low level of security that is generally agreed with the referring team/court/Ministry of Justice.

As a Staff Nurse registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, NMC, you provide direct personal care to service users/ patients, without direct supervision and co-ordinate the care given by colleagues. The post holder will deliver high quality safe nursing care, ensuring consistently high standards of practice and clinical excellence which comply with the NMC code of professional conduct.

The role includes leading the delivery of comprehensive service user assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of person-centred care in a collaborative way. The post holder will co-ordinate a first-class service that includes assessment and monitoring of physical health, maintaining service users rights, supervising junior staff and students, working collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and maintaining a safe and therapeutic working environment and accurate records. Band 5 nursing roles are only open to staff with a nursing registration, obtained by completing a qualification recognised by the NMC.
