The role of the LMNS Maternity and Neonatal Clinical Lead will provide additional clinical input and support our ambition to reduce health inequalities across our Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS). The post will seek to achievecontinuous improvement of clinical outcomes for pregnant persons and their babies and offer external specialist opinion and insight into maternity and neonatal serious incidents, themes, and trends.

The post holder will also support delivery of the three-year NHS Maternity and Neonatal Services Single Delivery plan for LLR.


The post holder will work closely with senior leaders on the LMNS Board with a view to delivering consistent outstanding maternity care across the LMNS.

The LMNS Maternity and Neonatal Clinical Lead will be a senior clinician within LLR and will be accountable to the LLR Integrated Care Board (ICB) /LMNS for the quality and safety of Maternity & Neonatal Services and will report to the ICB Strategic lead for women’s and Maternity within the IM&T directorate but also have strong links with the nursing quality team and the Chief Nurse.




Will work collaboratively with the LMNS programme lead, providing the clinical leadership for the LMNS and deputising for the programme lead at key forums and meetings.

Specific areas of responsibility include the provision of expert knowledge of maternity services and quality assurance processes locally, regionally and nationally.

Proactive leadership to ensure oversight and improvements in the safety and quality of maternity services

Clinical Leadership of system wide transformation and spread of innovation.

The post holder will support the development of a culture of safety across the LMNS escalating of areas of concern and good practice to the Integrated Clinical System (ICS) and the regional maternity transformation team

The post holder will support the implementation of the Perinatal Quality Surveillance model which will include the development of a quality assurance dashboard, facilitate external review of serious incidents within provider service, sharing learning from serious incidents across the Maternity system and buddy LMNS

You will be part of the Women's and Maternity Team, as a member of this small and dynamic team you will have the opportunity to work across departments and systems to improve outcomes for mothers and babies ultimately impacting on the wider communities within our local population.

As the role of the ICB within the system continues to develop so will this role, with opportunities to get involved in work which covers not only the ICB's portfolio but also that of UHL and LPT.

The ICB has an agile working policy, expecting individuals to work from the most appropriate place.

Integrated Care Boards are at the heart of a new way of working for the NHS, bringing together providers of NHS services with local authorities and other local partners to plan, co-ordinate and arrange health services as part of Integrated care Systems.
