This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced cardiac nurse to develop their career and leadership skills to deliver the highest quality care to patients admitted to the Acute Cardiac Ward.

The post holder will work on Ward 2 which is an 18 bedded inpatient unit caring for patients with a wide variety of cardiac conditions such as: Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, Endocarditis and Pericardial Effusions. Interventions are carried out on our Silver Heart Unit (Ward 1) based next door so pre and post care of patients undergoing interventional procedures will be incorporated into the role.

As a Sister/Charge Nurse you will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to staff in the delivery of evidence based practice. You will actively support the Ward and Managers in the effective running of the department including in their absence. You will play a key role in the education, supervision and assessment of all learners.

The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the 24/7 rota and will be expected to cover Long Days, Nights, Weekends and Bank Holidays as required.

Using your clinical experience and skills you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of care for patients on the ward. You will undertake nursing interventions consistent with evidence-based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients’ needs.

On the Ward you will be the Nurse-in-Charge, where you will be responsible for the coordination of the running of the shift.

You will participate in the 24/7 rota and be prepared to work flexible shifts including weekends, nights and bank holidays.

You will conduct yourself professionally within the standards framework provided by the NMC Codes of Professional Conduct.

You will have extensive knowledge and experience in cardiology and an enthusiasm for your own and others learning and development, playing a key role leading in the education, development, supervision and assessment of all learners and unregistered staff.

You will be an ALS provider or have a willingness to complete ALS certification and will provide leadership in the management of emergency situations.
