Student Services provides a range of student support, information, guidance and development services across the University including, counselling, disability, mental health, financial support and other key services delivered centrally These teams work closely together (and with other sections of the university) to provide the best possible services to our students, to enhance the student experience, to help students achieve their full potential and to meet the strategic aims of the University. These services are central to the student experience they are visible, seamless, effective and tailored to the needs of our student community.

About the Role
As a Student Life Adviser, you will triage the support for students with a wide range of wellbeing challenges and long-term conditions, signposting where necessary and initiating support packages regarding access to courses and facilities and reasonable adjustments to meet individual needs, as well as providing specialist advice to applicants.

You will provide professional advice to the University on the area of student wellbeing, and collaborate with academic and professional services staff to develop and enhance inclusive and holistic approaches to meeting these needs within available resources. You will both co-create and deliver University wider training and awareness sessions relating to wellbeing and you will have the opportunity to work on and contribute to several initiatives and projects designed to enhance current provision, positively impact the student journey and contribute to our strategic aims around inclusivity and accessibility.

About You
You will possess excellent knowledge of the statutory, regulatory and legislative frameworks that apply to student wellbeing and a sound understanding of the challenges of working within Student Services. This will be coupled with an undergraduate degree level qualification and professional qualification relating to the area of wellbeing (or equivalent applied experience) and / or membership of a professional body.

You will also be highly skilled in brief consultation with demonstrable experience of and an ability to be resourceful and solution-focused in one-to-one appointments, providing students with the advice and support they need to better manage the difficulties they are facing.

You will be successful at building highly effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues and adopt an insightful and pragmatic approach to the management of operations across the Student Life team and wider Student Services. You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and expectations, demonstrating a commitment to equality of opportunity. The ability to work to deadlines in a busy support service environment is essential.
