Summary
SPECIALTY DOCTOR IN GENERAL SURGERY - Fixed Term up 12 months
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated, committed and forward thinking Specialty Doctor to join us in providing excellent services within our Surgery Department at Queens Hospital, Burton
This post is fixed term for one year and will be 1 of 11 middle grade doctors in the Department. The successful applicant would be expected and encouraged to develop special interests, which will fit well with the current and future needs of the Department. The appointee will be expected to become involved in all aspects of the Department including teaching, audit and research and participate in the out of hour’s rota.
There are opportunities to learn laparoscopic colorectal and benign upper GI surgery. The post holder will also have opportunities to train in upper and lower GI endoscopies towards accreditation.
The post holder will gain experience in benign upper GI and comprehensive colorectal surgery experience. There is opportunity to learn GI endoscopy and the department actively encourages post holders to work towards JAG accreditation.

The job plan is based 10 PA's with an additional 2 PA's for out of hours working.
The working pattern will be subject to an annual job planning review and may change dependent on the needs of the service, and the shifts may change after discussions between both parties.
All fixed sessions are expected to be in Queen’s Hospital and community hospitals. The timetable will change on a regular basis to incorporate changes and to reflect on-call duties.
The on call rota is 1:9 covering surgical and urological emergencies. The oncall team involves FY1 and oncall consultant.
