Summary
We are recruiting for a Breeding Herd Pig Assistant for a farm in North Yorkshire, YO26.
The family-run business is well-established and has over forty years of experience in the pig industry. They operate a forward-thinking 400-sow unit with 1000 acres of arable farmed and contracted to support a varied team of five staff. Investment is returned to the farm business with a pig unit boasting a new ARM weaner and fattening sheds. They aim to reinvest in the breeder unit and run it as efficiently as possible while adhering to the highest animal welfare standards.
Job Description
Working on a three-weekly batch system with highly prolific sows boasting modern genetics
Farrowing house duties include assisted farrowing, cross-fostering, teething, tailing, and vaccinating
Record-keeping - keeping up-to-date with accurate data on farrowing, weaning and records to adhere to red tractor legislation, working alongside the farm office team.
AI – serving of gilts and sows
Fatteners – early shift once a week to load pigs for the abattoir
Power washing – regular washing as part of a team
General farm duties – driving of agricultural machinery and use of equipment
Experience in all areas is desired but not essential; training can be provided on the job.
Person specifications:
Compassionate and hardworking
At ease working alone and as part of a team
High level of attention to detail and welfare standards
Experience is preferred, but on-the-job training can be provided
Telehandler, tractor and bobcat experience is preferred, but on-the-job training can be provided
Salary: £25,000 - £35,000
Plus:
Overtime
Performance-related bonus
Hours: Full-time, 39-hour week with the opportunity for overtime. Day shifts with potential flexible hours and a one-in-three weekend rota.
