The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) is seeking to appoint a part time locum consultant for one year in Paediatric Rheumatology and Chronic Pain.

The appointee will join the other consultants in Bristol, providing a paediatric rheumatology tertiary service to the children of Bristol and across the South West of England; and join the highly specialist interdisciplinary team in the nationally commissioned Bath Centre for Pain Services.

We have a strong, well-functioning multidisciplinary team, with excellent relationships within the Children’s Hospital and across the region. The Children’s Hospital has all of the paediatric sub-specialties in one site. This is a newly created post for one year.

The post is based at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children working closely with local district general hospitals. The post holder will work alongside the existing consultants. Duties will include:

a) Bristol Royal Hospital for Children:
Monthly rheumatology clinic, MDM (multi-disciplinary meetings), radiology meetings, teaching and day case/inpatient reviews as appropriate.

b) Royal United Hospital (RUH), and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath: Twice monthly full day rheumatology clinics – am paediatrics, pm adolescent

c) Derriford Hospital, Plymouth: Rheumatology outreach clinic every 6 months, supporting local paediatric team (who have significant experience in paediatric rheumatology)

d) Bath Centre for Pain Services, RUH: Three times per month full day clinical sessions including outpatient clinic, residential programme teaching, team meetings within the Paediatric Chronic Pain Service, working alongside Dr Valerie Rogers (paediatric lead for Bath Centre for Pain Services).

e) Paediatric rheumatology service: Provide consulting service for acute requests coming into the department (within BRHC and across region) within normal working hours. 6.5 weeks per annum.
