Summary
The DHSC Honours Team leads delivery of the departmental responsibilities for honours. This includes submitting, twice a year, a list of nominees from the health and adult social care sectors for consideration by Independent Honours Committees. Successful nominees receive honours from His Majesty the King recognising their incredible contributions. Working on the team involves the opportunity to work directly with the most senior people in the Department and across the sector, on a positive agenda and delivery of a key Department of State function.
The DHSC Honours Team, within the Ministers, Accountability and Strategy Directorate, is looking to recruit an Honours Manager. The remit of the DHSC Honours Team is to deliver the department’s responsibilities within the honours system: ensuring that there are robust processes for assessing and benchmarking all nominations received; carrying out due diligence on all nominations progressed; implementing the recommendations of the five-yearly review of the honours system in 2022; and submitting a list of nominees twice a year, for the New Year’s Honours List and the King’s Birthday Honours List. We do this by working in partnership with stakeholders, supporting the DHSC Main Honours Committee and six sub-committees, the King’s Ambulance Medal Panel and the DHSC State Honours Committee. The role is an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively across different areas of DHSC and wider government. We work closely with teams in DHSC and Cabinet Office and with senior stakeholders within and outside the department; and directly support the Second Permanent Secretary in discharging the department’s responsibilities for honours. Within the team, Honours Managers (two) play a pivotal role as case managers. The team works to the fixed timetable of the honours rounds and processes a large volume of nominations. The post holder will also have the opportunity to support additional workstreams including contributing to cross-government policy development on awards within the honours system. |
