Anaesthetics Department
Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics
The Anaesthetics Department at Dorset County NHS Foundation Trust has a vacancy for a Specialty Doctor.
The successful applicant will join an established, successful, enthusiastic and ACSA accredited team in delivering quality anaesthetic, perioperative and critical care services to the local West Dorset population and adjoining areas. This includes anaesthetic support for the hospital’s surgical teams including theatre sessions for Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, Ophthalmology, Maxillo-facial, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Colorectal, and General Surgery. Anaesthetic support is also provided in the radiology suite and endoscopy unit. The post will also include working on the Intensive Care Unit at DCH.
Interview date - 27th September 2024
The timetable will be flexible; the post holder will be rostered for up to 20 hours per week as a combination of elective surgical lists (5 hours each), obstetrics cover and on call commitment as 1st ( Critical Care) or 2nd ( Theatre and Obstetrics) on call tier as required (12 hour shifts). The rota is on an 8 week rolling basis with approximately 36 lists of variable surgical specialities over an 8 week period in addition to on call commitment. Specialist interests and regular commitments may be accommodated. The post holder will have the opportunity of an attached training list each week.
Timetable includes a minimum of one SPA for CPD. CPD is supported by the Trust and is in accordance with current College requirements.
As a department we value all of our staff and recognise that appraisal and support for career progression are important. The successful candidate will be supported by a mentor from within the consultant body and we actively encourage and support our SAS staff to look towards CESR application if they wish to take this route.
The Trust is located close to the Centre of the county town of Dorchester and is a modern hospital. It provides the full range of general, acute hospital services, including an emergency department. The Trust is a recognised trauma unit affiliated with the Southampton Trauma Centre.
Dorchester is a popular market town with easy access to Dorset’s Jurassic Coastline in an area of outstanding beauty, served by frequent direct rail services to London Waterloo and Bristol. There are excellent recreational amenities and good educational facilities are available in both the public and private sectors. The popular seaside holiday resort of Weymouth with its golden beaches and picturesque harbour, water sports and the Weymouth Olympic sailing academy is only 8 miles away.
The successful applicants will join an established, successful and enthusiastic team in delivering quality anaesthetic, perioperative and critical care services to the local West Dorset population and adjoining areas. This includes anaesthetic support for the hospital’s surgical teams including theatre sessions for Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, Ophthalmology, Maxillo-facial, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Colorectal, and General Surgery. Anaesthetic support is also provided in the radiology suite and endoscopy unit. The post holder will be required to attend monthly Governance meetings. So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post-holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, and exceptionally to perform additional duties in emergencies or unforeseen circumstances
