As a Guardian Top 30 provider, we have a strong focus on the application of research to real-world settings and professional partnerships, with over 500 educational settings.

About the Role
Due to the continued growth on this programme, applications are invited for a Lecturer/Senior lecturer in Primary/Secondary ITT/E within the Institute of Education. This role is a part-time position of 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE), across Tuesdays, Thursdays and either Monday or Friday, depending on business needs.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Primary/Secondary Initial Teacher Training and Education (ITT/E), you will deliver innovative, inclusive teaching and contribute to research within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Education at the University of Derby. This role involves shaping undergraduate and postgraduate programs to ensure an exceptional student experience, integrating real-world learning, and supporting employability.

You will also engage in impactful research to inform teaching, collaborate with partners, and contribute to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). Additionally, mentoring students, fostering external partnerships, and contributing to program development are key aspects of the role, with Senior Lecturers taking on leadership responsibilities in these areas.

Anticipated interview date - 13th February 2025

About You
An experienced educator with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in either the Primary or Secondary age phase and a master’s degree, ideally in education. You will have recent or current classroom experience and a strong understanding of curriculum development, teaching at Level 7, and supporting Initial Teacher Training/Education.

You will demonstrate a commitment to innovative and inclusive teaching, employing digital pedagogies to deliver engaging and impactful learning experiences. Your ability to inspire and challenge students will help them apply a principled approach to practice and achieve outstanding outcomes.

As a team player, you will lead modules, contribute to the program's direction, and work collaboratively with SCITT partners. Flexibility and responsiveness to external and student needs are key, along with a willingness to travel within the UK, including overnight stays.

Equity, diversity and inclusion
The University of Derby is committed to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, regardless of age, disability, trans status, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief (or none), sex and sexual orientation.

We are Disability Confident Employers, demonstrating our commitment to disability inclusion, and invite applicants to highlight adjustments they may require to ensure equitable participation in our recruitment processes.

Further, we are committed to ensuring an environment which is trans and non-binary-inclusive for all our staff, students, partners, and visitors, and continuously review our policies, guidance and training.

When applying to join the University, you can choose your preferred title, including the gender-neutral title 'Mx'. We also ask our candidates if they would like to share their preferred pronouns. This is voluntary but demonstrates our commitment to inclusivity for trans and non-binary candidates. Once employed, you can add pronouns and preferred names onto our system.

The University of Derby undertakes anonymised shortlisting during the staff recruitment process. This means that, when shortlisting, panel members will not be able to see an applicant’s name and will see an applicant number instead. This demonstrates the practical steps we are taking to remove barriers to recruitment by minimising the possible impact of our unconscious bias.

However you identify, we actively celebrate the knowledge, experience and talents each person brings. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds; therefore we are particularly interested to hear from applicants who will help our leaders and teams be more reflective of our student population.
