Are you ready for a new challenge? If so, this is an ideal opportunity for you to join our small friendly team. We are looking for a part-time worker to join us as a Special feeds unit assistant (SFU) in Royal Manchester Childrens hospital. The post is permanent and based in the Special feeds unit within our Therapy and Dietetics department .
The SFU staff prepare approximately 70 feeds (400 bottles) a day of therapeutic feeds for the infants and children admitted to RMCH. The dietitians calculate the infant /child’s nutritional needs based on their clinical condition and age and translate this into a feed recipe.
The role of the SFU staff is carefully following the recipe , weigh out all the ingredients then prepare and bottle the feed following strict hygienic conditions. The feeds are then labelled, pasteurised and chilled before being sent to the wards. In the afternoons you will be ensuring we have a clean and safe environment to work in ready for the next day, preparing labels and undertaking doing stock checks
The unit is open every day of the year ;
8 am to 4 pm on weekdays
8 am to 12 noon at weekend and bank holidays.
We have a team of 5 assistants and 2 part-time supervisors who each follow a fortnightly rota with 3 staff working each shift .
Usually you will work 10 shifts (4 to 5 hours) over a 14 day period - including alternate weekends and some bank holiday working..
We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a friendly food preparation environment to join our hardworking and flexible team.
We will provide training; support and supervision required you will need;
• excellent communication and team working skills
• good numeracy and literacy
• the ability to read and follow written instructions and accurately weigh ingredients
• use an IT system to access patient data and generate labels.
• a knowledge of principles for good hygiene
