About Us
A. Shufflebotham and Son is a proud fifth-generation family business with over 50 years of expertise in textile sales and bespoke soft furnishings. Known as an Aladdin’s cave of designer fabrics for furnishing and dressmaking, our site spans six warehouses overflowing with treasures. We are passionate about quality, tradition, and creating beautiful, custom products for our customers. If you’re looking to join a welcoming, family-run company with a commitment to excellence, we’d love to hear from you.
About the Role
We are seeking a Warehouse Assistant to join our busy team and play a key role in the efficient management of our warehouse operations. This is a hands-on role requiring a proactive individual with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to take on a variety of tasks.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing stock, maintaining warehouse organisation, and assisting with general site maintenance. A significant part of the role involves working with our new stock management system, ensuring all data is accurately recorded and up-to-date. This is a physically active role that includes heavy lifting, ladder work, and being on your feet for most of the day.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service: Provide friendly, approachable service to customers in-store, over the phone, and via email. Assist sales assistants by retrieving and returning stock as needed.
Stock Management: Upload and maintain accurate data in our stock management system. Organise, pack, and unpack stock, ensuring all inventory is accounted for and stored correctly.
Warehouse Organisation: Maintain a tidy, well-ordered warehouse space by sorting stock, topping up shelves, and keeping areas clear and presentable.
Site Maintenance: Perform tasks such as vacuuming, spraying weeds, clearing gutters, and painting car park lines to ensure the site is well-maintained and safe.
Technical Work: Use power tools to create bespoke Roman blind tracks as part of our custom product offering. Full training will be provided.
Skills and Qualities
Strong organisational skills and a keen eye for detail.
Confidence using general computer systems, with a willingness to learn new software.
Physically fit and comfortable with tasks such as lifting, climbing ladders, and staying active throughout the day.
A friendly, team-oriented attitude with good communication skills.
An interest in textiles and soft furnishings is a bonus but not required.
Working Hours and Pay
Hours: 35 hours per week – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 9:30 AM–5:30 PM; Saturday: 10:00 AM–1:00 PM (subject to change).
Salary: £12.00 per hour, rising to £12.50 per hour after probation (or based on experience).
Breaks: Fully paid 20-minute lunch break, with tea and coffee available throughout the day.
Perks and Benefits
Company pension.
Employee discount on our products.
On-site parking for convenience.
A winter staff meal to celebrate our team’s hard work.
