Job Title: Assisted Travel Driver
Reporting to: Supervisor / Shift Team Leader
Location: Birmingham Airport Assisted Travel Service
Hours of Work: 1962 hours per annum averaging out to 37.5hrs a week on a Seasonal shifts patterns Days, lates & Nights working on Annualised hours, 10.75hr shift patterns will range from 5 on 3 off, 4 on 4 off, 3 on 5 off (Flexibility will be required in hours and timings to manage the different seasons of the service)

What - Airside Ambilift & Minibus driver to assist assisted travel passengers onto aircraft.
Why - To provide a professional service to passengers with reduced mobility who require assistance at the airport.
When - The Driver will work 10.75-hour shifts on 3 different seasonal shift patterns to meet service demand on an annualized hours contract. (Flexibility will be required throughout the different seasons of the service shift patterns will range from 5 on 3 off, 4 on 4 off, 3 on 5 off)
Role Summary
Working as a member of the Assisted travel Airside Driver Team, you will drive the Company's specialist vehicles on the airfield to transfer passengers with reduced mobility (PRM's) from the aircraft to the terminal building or from the terminal building to the aircraft. The Vehicles range from Minibuses to Class 2 rigid heavy good type vehicles, the capacity of the vehicles will range from 6 seats up to 20 seats. You will also be required to assist PRM's onto the aircraft, to their seat or into the MITIE vehicles or terminal buildings which involves passenger and manual handling techniques. You will be trained as a customer care agent for all terminal duties and as a specialist driver.

Job Role/Overview
-To assist People with Reduced mobility throughout their airport journey with passenger experience at the forefront.
-Driving of Ambilift hi-lift & minibus vehicles airside at Birmingham International Airport.
-To undertake additional training to ensure continuous self-development
-Stay alert to any threats or changes within the work environment in order to take the appropriate action to reduce the chance of disruption, loss or damage.
-Use common sense and initiative by immediately involving others if a situation appears to become threatening.
-To maintain professional conduct in the face of difficult situations and challenging customers.
-Keep to schedules and demonstrate commitment to MITIE and the Client.
-To call emergency services and Communication Centre to report all incidents.
-To report all incidents and near misses to MITIE management and airfield operations.
-Follow instructions from airfield ground operations when prompted.
-Follow Birmingham airport AOI's (Aerodrome Operating instructions)
-Follow airfield processes and procedures as per ADP training and ramp course training.
-Coaching of new staff when required for on job training
-Adhering to MITIE standard operating procedures whilst carrying out all tasks
Main Duties & Responsibilities
-To ensure you are wearing the correct uniform and PPE as per company requirements for your role.
-Complete the daily Vehicle Check Sheet on Merlin, to maintain the operational reliability of the vehicle, reporting when necessary, any vehicle defaults in line with the Vehicle Inspection procedure.
-Drive the Company vehicles ensuring that the vehicle is safe and secure at all times.
-To organize the most efficient and effective way of transporting several PRM's (plus one of their companions) to the various aircraft, ensuring on time departures.
-To correctly use a PDA ensuring compliance with time stamping for location purposes.
-To ensure PDA'S are being used correctly and signed in/out as per process.
-To co-ordinate the boarding / disembarkation of PRM's onto / off the aircraft from your vehicle or air bridge, liaising with the aircraft dispatcher and cabin crew to ensure smooth passage.
-Overall responsibility for the use of all aspects of the Ambilift vehicle including the tail lift and front platform and their controls.
-Driving of minibus and terminal buggies when required.
-Marshaling of vehicles when required.
-To report all Accidents / Near Misses to management.
-To keep the vehicles, clean and tidy of FOD. Maintaining a clean and tidy vehicle at all times.
-Deliver or collect the passengers at the aircraft door and assist with the transfer into their seat or wheelchair through safe manual handling techniques.
-Operate the vehicle safely within close proximity to the aircraft using all safety systems of the vehicle.
-To assist in the induction and training of all new assisted travel drivers and support in on job training.
-To carry out efficient and up to date handovers to oncoming drivers.
-To report any security risks or breaches throughout the airport in a timely and accurate manner.
-To assist in severe weather conditions when needed and making sure the equipment areas are safe and secure for our passengers.
-Will assist with the promotion of safe working environment by raising awareness of potential risks and putting processes in place to help reduce risk against assisted travel staff.
-To have a good understanding of MITIE polices procedures and protocols.
-To follow the airports rules and regulations by being tactful, diplomatic and assertive.
-To follow the airports and MITIES'S ID Badge Policy.
-Responsible for making sure you are following the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) regulations.
-To ensure all passengers coming through Birmingham airport are treated with dignity and respect.
-Complete Customer Care Agent (CCA) duties within the terminal when demand requires, this may include escorting passengers through the terminal/security and boarding flights or meeting arriving flights and assisting PRM's through to baggage reclaim.
-Ensure that the Allocator is updated on progress of jobs at all times using PDA's and Radio.
-Ensure all passengers EMA'S (Mobility scooters) are processed as per company policy and procedure.
-Safely isolate electric mobility aids and sign off relevant paperwork for safe air travel
-To be flexible in the delivery of the assisted travel service when required and adapt to the different roles of the job when seasonal demand requires, ie CCA duties when vehicle availability low or not needed.
-Observe all Birmingham airport airside driving requirements.
-Promote a safe and secure environment at all times.
-Provide assistance to passengers travelling with assistance animals when required.
-Aiding with baggage for ATS passengers
-Ensure all paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner
-To attend to jobs as quickly as possible and mark location when arrived.
-Not to hold onto jobs after finishing service.
-To provide the highest level of customer service to all passengers at Birmingham airport.
-Assist with the collection of wheelchairs when required and assigned on task, this could be from all areas of the airport including car parks and train station.
-Carry out wheelchair collections to the correct locations while not on task and waiting for task.
-Any other adhoc duty which may be required by the client or Operations manager to assist in the delivery of the assisted travel service.
