The Team

Law is part of York Business School. Our law programme started in 2018 and has developed rapidly; in 2020 we opened York St John Law Clinic, in which students give legal advice and assistance under the supervision of experienced staff, and in 2021 our innovative LLM Legal Practice (LPC) welcomed its first students.

In 2023 we inaugurated a refreshed suite of programmes. Our new LLB, MLaw and MLaw Legal Practice reflect the changes in the legal education and graduate employment landscape and our own developing identity. Our teaching emphasises personal and skills development, with a focus on employability, with clinical learning embedded at each stage of study. We pride ourselves in knowing our students as individuals and in offering high levels of personal support.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice, we are seeking an enthusiastic new colleague to join us as Practice Administrator in York St John Law Clinic, the service through which our students engage with clinical learning. Under the supervision of qualified solicitors, students give legal advice and assistance to members of the public and you will play a critical role in managing all incoming and outgoing communications with our clients and providing supervision and support to students working in our clinic office. You will assist the Director of Professional Practice in ensuring compliance with clinic rules and procedures and identifying and responding to professional risks.

Required Skills and Experience

You must have obtained a good first degree from York St John University, demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to manage and organise your own time, to be punctual and reliable and the ability to remain calm and polite in stressful situations and to calm and reassure others.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 21 January 2025 online or at our Lord Mayor’s Walk campus. On arrival you will be asked to complete a short letter writing task. You will then give a short prepared presentation to the panel followed by a competency-based interview addressing the skills and attributes from the job description.
