Locum Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry at Hillingdon Hospital

6 months Fixed-Term, Full-Time

We are seeking a Specialty Doctor (LAS) who has experience working in psychiatry who is either considering non-training posts or who is looking to increase their experience in psychiatry.

The person should be a good communicator and works well in a team. They should have some experience and knowledge of physical health conditions.

They should be keen to involve themselves in improving the delivery of care on a busy high intensity ward.

The post is full time and work is divided between the CMHT and the acute inpatient word for Older People.

The post holder will be expected to provide 5 programmed activities per week of medical support to the Community Mental Health Team and 5 programmed activities to the acute inpatient ward for Older People in the Borough of Hillingdon.

Section 12 approval under the MHA 1983 is desirable but not essential (training can be provided).

There will be an expectation for the successful candidate to join the middle grade doctor after hours on-call rota, subject to satisfactory previous experience.

To work as part of the multi-professional community team to provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and follow up to older people suffering from mental health problems in the community.

To work as part of the multi-professional team on Oak Tree ward to provide assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to older people suffering from mental health problems in the community.

To support junior medical colleagues requiring advice on medical/psychiatric matters

To support non-medical colleagues requiring advice on medical/psychiatric matters, and to undertake joint visits with them when required.

To attend appropriate meetings with care coordinators in the community.

To attend the CMHT meeting once a week to discuss allocation of referrals, to provide feedback on the outcome of assessments, and to participate in the discussion of other matters of interest.

To undergo caseload supervision with the Team Leader at agreed intervals.

To be involved during working hours in urgent assessments in the community of patients referred to the service, including assessments under the Mental Health Act.

To provide support to service developments.

To be involved in team training and development.

To liaise with other voluntary and statutory organisations/agencies where necessary.

To refer to other clinicians as appropriate.

To seek advice from senior colleagues promptly when needed.

To use SystmOne, the Trust’s clinical information system, to input clinical information in a prompt manner (training will be provided).

To adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
