The overall aim of the Education Academy is to provide a portfolio of education and training which is patient focused and multi professional, that anticipates and responds to the changing demands of the health economy, and helps to ensure an appropriately skilled workforce, equipped to deliver new models of care.

The post holder is responsible for the overall learning and development (L&D) portfolio and strategic direction of the L&D function for Barts Health, to support a culture of continuous learning and growth that enables staff to develop to their full potential.

Barts Health Education Academy is an approved Institute of Leadership and Management centre and has delivers a portfolio of leadership and coaching qualification. The postholder is responsible for ensuring the centre adheres to the awarding body criteria and has the highest levels of quality assurance.

The post holder acts as the internal expert advisor on learning and development (non-clinical) for the Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Trust’s apprenticeship strategy in line with national targets as identified in the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and the Trust’s people strategy

To maximise the apprenticeship levy spend, which is c£535,000 per month, with £11.7m of funds currently in the apprenticeship levy and promoting equal opportunity across all staff groups.



The key areas of responsibilities include:-

Leadership, management, and skills- based training - to lead on the design, development and delivery of in-house leadership and management training and other relevant development programmes including our accredited ILM leadership and management and coaching qualifications.

Educator pathway – to lead on the design, development, and delivery of our trainers’ pathway. This includes a 2-day Training Skills course, and a City & Guilds Award in Education & Training We are an accredited provider for the Level 3 Award in Education & Training.

Induction –the post holder will be expected to have overall responsibility for the design, and continuous development, of our weekly corporate induction and our Consultants 5- day Induction, which runs on a quarterly basis.

Digital education and training – a good understanding of the role of technology in education is required to ensure continued development of a range of training via e-learning, pod casts, webinars etc as well as offering streamlined access to national e-learning provision, including NHS Elect.

Apprenticeships – to manage the apprenticeship team, which offers a range of apprenticeships, either as an identified apprenticeship vacancy or as continuing professional development (CPD). Qualifications cover all staff groups including nursing, estates and facilities, finance, administration, data quality, leadership, and management
