Crynodeb

The Audiologist at Chime Social Enterprise, based at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Hospital, is responsible for delivering excellence in diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology for NHS patients. Reporting to the Adult Service Lead, this role can be Band 4 or 5, depending on qualifications and registration status. The Audiologist will function autonomously, managing direct referrals from primary and secondary care for both adults and children. Key responsibilities include planning and conducting diagnostic and rehabilitative regimes, interpreting test results, and recommending appropriate actions. They will ensure the effectiveness of hearing aid systems, make onward referrals when necessary, and support patients in managing their hearing loss. The role involves continuous professional development and may include MSc level STP education. The Audiologist will travel to locality clinics and make domiciliary visits, often working independently in small clinics. They are expected to supervise audiology trainees, manage stock usage, and maintain a harmonious working environment. Communication is a critical aspect, involving interaction with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals, conveying complex information in a patient-friendly manner. The role requires precise audiological skills, such as hearing testing and hearing aid fitting, and involves physical tasks like carrying equipment. Emotional resilience is essential, as the Audiologist will work with patients who may have challenging behavior or serious illnesses. The working conditions can be challenging, including exposure to unclean environments and noisy machinery. The Audiologist must comply with Chimes Infection Control Policies and take responsibility for their health and wellbeing, engaging with Occupational Health and following the organizations health vision. This role requires a DBS check due to access to vulnerable adults and children.
