Summary
• The post holder is responsible for assisting in all areas within Respiratory.
• Will be trained to under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Work within an interdisciplinary team of nursing, medical, paramedical and clerical staff to provide quality patient services.
• Be responsible for the effective assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within the department.

• Provide the relevant support, mentorship, supervision and education to unqualified defined staff groups as required.
• Support assessments of patients for long term and or ambulatory oxygen therapy in accordance with National Guidelines
• Perform clinical skills following appropriate training, supervision and assessment of competency by a qualified nurse in the relevant areas e.g.;
• Feno
• Spirometry
• Capillary blood Gas
• Blood Glucose Monitoring
• Patient inhaler teaching
• Oxygen assessments
• Measuring and monitoring the physical condition of patients
• Observations – blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate
• Perform venepuncture or has undergone training.
• To carry out routine urine testing, record results and report any abnormalities.
• Adhere to Trust policy on moving and handling.
• As part of an interdisciplinary team provide a broad range of health and social care activities that will be specified by individual programmes of care for clients.
• Contribute to the development of and support new and current Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and others e.g. reception staff.
• Provide an effective role model, demonstrating the appropriate skills and knowledge.
• Fully achieve and maintain competencies within the competency framework for this post.
