Crynodeb


The primary role is to be responsible for the safe and timely collection and transportation of bloods, blood products and samples to or from all specialties in the Trust and Community locations to the appropriate laboratories at the Liverpool NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

This role will also be responsible for the safe and dignified transportation of fetal remains for communal cremation and deceased babies for postmortem.

respond immediately to requests for emergency blood samples to take to Liverpool Women's or Alder Hey & collect blood, products & samples as required .

record requests in relation to the transport of blood, products & samples.

Assist on-call hematologist if a Level 1 has been called. Transport hematologist from Royal to Liverpool Women’s if requested.

· Liaise with departments whilst supporting an emergency situation to prioritise work.Collect & track blood, blood products.

Always ensure patient confidentiality.


Asses, prioritise & organise own workload to ensure that specimens are collected & transported in a timely manner. Respond to requests from all staff in relation to ad hoc jobs. Demonstrate tact, diplomacy, empathy, calm & professional to patients, visitors & colleagues.

Deliver & receive comprehensive handover with blood courier colleagues at shift changes.

Ensure IPC and H&S measures are adhered to in relation to transportation of blood, products and samples.

Report issues with transport vehicle promptly & following guidance in the event of a mechanical failure.

Drive safely adhering to the Highway Code.

· Escalate to Hospital Transport Manager any issues or concerns.

· Order money from Finance weekly for the fuel. Complete & replenish all required paperwork ensuring the vehicle is checked & road worthy at the start of each shift.
