Your new company

My client is a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy practice that provides an environmental package of landscape architectural, archaeological, arboricultural and ecological consultancy for all forms of development.
They understand the need to develop and nurture the potential of every employee and therefore they offer their commitment to train, guide and lead in order to maximise that potential. They currently employ around 40 people, spread across 3 offices in the south of the UK. They have continued to grow over the last 30 years and their expansion shows no sign of slowing.
You'll be working on various projects ranging in size including; residential & commercial developments, renewables, country estates, private landowners and more...

Your new role

They are looking for an additional member of staff who can support with surveys, report writing and ideally, project management.
This role routinely involves conducting:

  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (habitat surveys and condition assessments)
  • Assisting with Botanical surveys and Biodiversity Assessments for UKHabs
  • Protected species surveys
  • Assisting with project management
  • Assisting with Ecological Impact Assessments and further detailed assessments.
  • Technical report writing

This would be perfect for someone wanting to challenge themselves and develop well-rounded consultancy skills, albeit specialists are also welcome, as they are happy for team members to carve a niche for themselves and put their mark on the place. The project-based nature of our work means you must be willing to undertake travel and work away from home with rare overnight stays, however, they work hard to ensure team members achieve a work-life balance, so they have caps on the numbers of nights away or antisocial hours worked.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Genuine and demonstrable enthusiasm for ecology and the environment;
  • Degree in and Environmental/Ecological subject
  • Experience of phase 1 habitat surveys/ UK Habs and protected species surveys;
  • Ability to lead field teams and manage projects;
  • Willingness to be flexible and travel to site with a full UK driving licence
  • Good report writing skills;
  • Motivated to work both independently and as part of a team, often in remote locations and sometimes during unsociable hours;
  • Good communication skills both with colleagues, clients and third parties;

Desirable:

  • Survey licence for a protected species e.g. bats, dormouse, GCN, barn owl, rare reptiles etc;

What you'll get in return

  • Competitive Salary: £25,000 - £32,000 DOE
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Electric pool cars for work use
  • Free parking
  • Comprehensive TOIL system
  • Private healthcare policy
  • Excellent training, CPD and development opportunities
  • Professional memberships paid
  • Pension and holiday plans
