Sessional hourly paid role - Teaching/Contact Time: variable hours - Must be available to teach during the day and evenings.

Due to recent growth at the College, we are seeking an outstanding ESOL Tutor to deliver a range of ESOL courses, from pre-entry level through to Level 2. This includes both regulated and non-regulated learning.

New Directions College is Reading Borough Council’s Adult Community Learning and Skills service. This year we’re celebrating 65 years of Adult Learning in Reading. We’re a small friendly College delivering to over 2000 learners and Apprentices each year, directly and through our subcontractors and partners.

About the role:

We are looking for a versatile tutor to deliver a range of Skills for Life courses at our main centre in Whitley, as well as in a variety of community locations (local schools, libraries, community centres, children’s centres, etc).

Experience in teaching ESOL is essential for this role. You may wish to expand your expertise by delivering courses both in the local community and at our main centre in Whitley, South Reading.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable, and flexible, with a genuine passion for teaching adults in the local community. You should be committed to helping learners develop their skills and build their confidence.

Strong communication skills, a supportive attitude, and the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team are key qualities for this position.

You will work closely with our Information, Advice and Guidance Officer to engage and support learners within the community, designing and delivering flexible learning opportunities tailored to their needs.

Your responsibilities will include conducting initial assessments, creating individual learning plans, and setting meaningful targets that promote learners' skill development, knowledge, and personal growth.

You should also have relevant occupational competence and professional teaching qualifications that enable you to support adult learners to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge in English language and to make progress.

You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability. As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you’ll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.

Our vision is to ensure that Reading realises its potential as a great place to live, work and play, and that everyone shares the benefits of this success. Our values and behaviours guide how we will achieve this:

Work Together as one team - work collaboratively, with each other and with our partners, and demonstrate the Team Reading values in everything we do

Drive Efficiency - show initiative, be adaptable to change and put forward ideas to help improve delivery and efficiency. Take responsibility for our own learning and development and for reaching our potential

Be Ambitious - be demanding of our own performance – striving to be even better – and be prepared to engage with and challenge leaders in a constructive and positive way

Make a Difference to Reading - maintain the highest levels of customer service and be flexible and willing to provide the services needed at the time they are needed

Our Offer

A competitive salary alongside a range of benefits including:

We offer a supportive environment to grow and develop your career with the opportunity to put your ideas across. Innovation and ambition is strongly encouraged, and you’ll get a great feel for that working in our friendly and collaborative environment
A wide range of flexible working opportunities.

Annual membership to the Society of Education and Training (SET)
Access to a range of training and learning opportunities to help you develop.
