We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic health care assistant to join our friendly team in Endoscopy Unit.

The Endoscopy Service is predicted to continue to increase in demand over time and there is a plan to expanding the unit with additional rooms, improved patient care and updated facilities.. The department offers all types of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures for both in patients and out patients.

You will need to be driven and prepared to deliver high quality care and attention to detail. In this role there is an excellent opportunity to look forward to a full development of your career and support from an excellent and friendly endoscopy team.

This is a great opportunity to assist the Registered Nurses in the Unit in all aspects of endoscopy work including preparation of the environment and patients for their procedures.

Previous experience in endoscopy would be a strong advantage but relevant healthcare experience will be considered.

Training is provided in house and there is an excellent supportive working environment to meet your training and development needs with a named mentor.

. To carry out tasks requires to maintain the safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the admission area/procedure rooms/recovery area.

· Use of physical effort to carry out the demands of the job role (e.g pushing and pulling trolleys/wheelchairs, supporting patients during walking)

· To support new or less experienced work colleagues to adapt to the workplace.

· Safe admission, recovery and discharge of patients.

· Assist medical and non medical endoscopist within the procedure room

· Under supervision of a registered nurse assist with patient care activities including recording of observations pre, peri and post procedures.

· To actively contribute to the efficient management of clinical resources including ordering/monitoring of supplies.

· Required to carry out a number of designated tasks, of which will involve direct care, in support of and under the supervision of a registered nurse.

· Work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team.

· Following appropriate training and assessment, undertake clinical and non-clinical duties in support of the registered nurse.

· Participate in the provision on call endoscopy services during out of hours.

1. Maintain a professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with World Class Care values.

2. To be responsible for the unsupervised assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence based care using a defined model of care.

3.Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse carry out nursing procedures following verification of competency and assist with the care and treatment of patients. This will include: assisting with meeting the comfort and hygiene needs of patients which will include washing, oral carem escorting to toilet, assisting with bed pans/commodes, making beds and dealing with dirty linen in accordance with procedures.

4. To ensure accurate and comprehensive nursing records are maintained using appropriate written and electronic documentation.

5. To collect data and provide essential information in a timely and accurate manner when requested for e.g. audits or monitoring CQC standards.

6. To support the clinical team in conducting audits relating to the service and to assist with the documentation of this and other nursing issues as required by JAG (The Joint Advisory Group).

7. To measure patient acuity and/or dependency to inform evidence-based decision making on staffing and workforce.

8. To assist with meeting the dietary needs of patients which will include distribution of drinks and meals and helping patients to eat and drink as required.

9. To implement safe working practices with regard to the Trust’s Clinical Governance/Clinical Risk Strategies.

10.To establish effective working relations with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

11. To communicate with patients and significant others with empathy and reassurance regarding assessment, care and treatment.

12. To ensure that patients are helped to retain their dignity and individuality.
