A Vacancy at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.


The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is seeking to recruit a Consultant Peripheral Nerve and Spasticity Surgeon into a Substantive post. This would be treating elective Peripheral nerve condition and spasticity of the upper limb. At the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, the Consultant would join the Small Joints team which includes six other hand surgeons. The expectation would be that the post-holder would have the relevant skills and knowledge in the generality of peripheral nerve surgery and experience in brachial plexus and spasticity surgery.

There would be support to develop a related research portfolio and the trust will endeavour to support any ongoing research already associated with the applicant.

A multidisciplinary working with the hand therapy team and surgical colleagues is expected within the department.

The department undertakes a comprehensive range of hand surgery with surgeons having specialist interests in spasticity, peripheral nerve and wrist pathologies. Paediatric patients are not treated in the trust.

There are currently 6 Hand surgeons, 2 of which work across ROH and UHB. this post however is solely based at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

The job plan is based upon 10 PA with potential to review and increase upon appointment.

The post will includes

- Twice weekly full day Elective Hand surgery theatre lists (5DCC)

- Twice weekly Elective Hand surgery clinics (2DCC)

- 1.5 SPA and 1 admin session are provided with possibility to increase the SPAs dependent on additional roles undertaken

- 0.5 DCC are expected to be made up by working evening or weekend sessions on an adhoc basis to make the post up to 10PA per week over the year.

If a larger research element preferable due to existing grants then this can be negotiated on appointment and either additional to the 10 PAs or as a replacement to DCC. Consultants within the Trust are expected to complete job plan diaries when required to ensure appropriate remuneration.
