Crynodeb

A Vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We have three questions for you:

1. Are you a dynamic, motivated doctor seeking a broad experience of inner-city emergency medicine at junior doctor level (ST1+)?

2. Can you demonstrate previous emergency medicine experience?

3. Does your work consistently uphold our trust values of safety, kindness, teamwork, and improving?

If you answered “yes” to all the above, then we want your contribution to our dedicated, friendly, team. Come to UCLH and help us deliver excellent emergency and urgent care.

We are offering a fixed term appointment, starting as soon as possible, initially for 12 months but with potential to extend this. We know that doctors have lives outside of work, so we are positive about flexible and less than full-time working: talk to us if this is something you would like to consider.

Eligibility

You must have (essential):
• Full registration with the GMC;
• At least two years’ post-graduation clinical experience;
• At least three months’ experience in emergency medicine;
• Up-to-date certification in ALS or ACLS.

Candidates not fulfilling these essential criteria will not be shortlisted for interview.

You should preferably also have (desirable):
• MRCEM / FRCEM primary, MRCP, MRCS, MRCGP, or primary FRCA; or evidence of progression towards these;
• Experience in medicine, anaesthetics, paediatrics, surgery and/or orthopaedics;
• Familiarity with the UK system of healthcare delivery

Clinical Duties:

• To see patients in all areas of the ED, as requested by the Consultant or Registrar in charge
• To participate in the major incident procedure.
• To engage in ED performance development
• To be engaged in WBA and yearly appraisal

The Junior Clinical Fellow tier has twenty doctors who work on a rolling rota, split into 80% clinical ‘shop floor’ shifts and 20% non-clinical professional development days, averaging 42.6 hours per week. There are two weeks of night shifts in a 16 week rota cycle, split into three or four night blocks, and also seven weekends worked per 16 week cycle.
Professional development days can be used for teaching, audit, research, quality improvement work, exam revision, personal study, or any other appropriate activity agreed with your consultant supervisor. The department has a strong record in junior fellows submitting abstracts, posters and oral presentations to national and international conferences as a result of their quality improvement work.
