Job Description for the St Michael’s Lodge Manager
Hours: Full time – 37 hours a week
Some evening, weekend and on-call work may be required for which time off in lieu will be given.

Office Base: St Michael’s Lodge Hudswell, North Yorkshire. Some working from home will be possible

Job Purpose
To manage all aspects of the work of St Michael’s Lodge. In particular to be responsible for supporting the board of trustees in determining the strategic direction of the organisation, managing the income and expenditure and room booking system, co-ordinating and supporting the work of St Michael’s Lodge staff team and volunteers. The Lodge Manager will ensure that St Michael’s Lodge is efficiently, safely and properly run.

Reporting to
The chair of the board of trustees on a regular basis and to the whole board of trustees at their bi monthly meetings
Duties
Prior to the hostel opening
1. To assist the trustees with the final preparations to open the hostel, including the ordering of soft furnishings, kitchen and cleaning equipment, computers, office equipment and everything else that will be needed to run the hostel.
2. To work with the board on the final arrangements for bookings, pricing of rooms/beds, opening hours, staffing arrangements and administrative systems.
3. With assistance from UBQ Europe (our digital marketing company) to launch the website and online booking system and begin to take bookings
4. To work with the board on the arrangements for an opening event.
5. To lead on the recruitment of a staff team for the Hostel
6. To liaise with the other village amenities including the George and Dragon, the Little Shop, the Village Hall and possibly the Live Brew Brewery being developed in the village, on joint arrangements, shared publicity and marketing.
7. To build partnerships with other local businesses and relevant organisations
8. To advise the board on the final arrangements for the display of the historic artefacts and heritage features of the building and the information that is available about these within the hostel

Once the Hostel is open, they will be responsible for:
1. The day-to-day management of the hostel
2. The management of the hostel staff team
3. The maintenance of the building and the equipment within the building
4. Marketing and social media, with assistance from UBQ Europe
5. Financial management including record keeping and banking. You will have the authority to make spending decisions within the agreed budget and seek authority from the treasurer for decisions outside the budget
6. Working with the Community Heritage Officer to ensure that the heritage features of the building are protected, respected and displayed
7. Reporting to the board of directors on a regular basis
8. Advising the board on strategic planning, pricing, special events and any other issues relevant to the development of the hostel
9. Providing written reports to the Board.
10. Maintaining good working relationships with partner organisations
11. Ensuring that accurate maintenance and reporting of statistical information
12. Monitoring staff leave and other absences.
13. Reporting all matters relating to premises and equipment to the Board.
14. Ensuring the confidential treatment of information at all times.
15. To ensure all of the policies relating to safeguarding, child protection issues and protection of vulnerable adult issues are addressed in staff recruitment and management, including DBS checks.
16. Working with the Trustees to raise the funds necessary for the smooth running of St Michael’s Lodge
17. Any other duties which the board of trustees asks the manager to carry our that are in support of the overall objectives of providing a welcoming and well-run facility for benefit of the visitors to Hudswell
