Managing Director, Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation, Stockport, Greater Manchester

About Us

Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) was established in 2019 by Stockport Council and the Greater Manchester Mayor to spearhead the regeneration of 130 acres in Stockport Town Centre. Our ambitious goals include delivering 4,000 homes, 1 million sq. ft. of workspace, and creating 5,300 jobs by 2035. With significant progress already made through projects like Stockport Exchange, the Interchange, and Weir Mill, we are now poised to expand our remit to an additional 280 acres, making this one of the largest town centre regeneration projects in the UK.

The Role

We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Managing Director to lead the Stockport MDC. This pivotal role involves driving the overall strategy and operations of the corporation, ensuring the successful delivery of complex urban development projects that align with our vision and long-term goals. Reporting jointly to the Chair of the Board and the Deputy Chief Executive of the Council, you will collaborate with key regional and national stakeholders to position the MDC as a national leader in sustainable, community-driven town centre regeneration.

Key Responsibilities

As the Managing Director, you will develop and implement medium-term strategies, annual business plans, and policies to deliver the MDC’s priorities.

You will work with landowners, developers, and local authority partners to identify and promote new development and investment opportunities. Ensuring a robust pipeline of projects that advance the economic development of Stockport and are ready to capitalise on funding opportunities is essential.

You will collaborate with local authorities to ensure adequate housing to support the economic strategy and vision of Stockport. Coordinating and managing the investment approval process for physical development projects will be a significant part of your responsibilities.

As an ambassador for the MDC, you will promote its interests and lead the establishment of strong, collaborative, and effective strategic relationships with external stakeholders. You will work across organisational boundaries to collaborate with and influence key stakeholders, generating commitments from partners to enable solution implementation across other public bodies, government, the private sector, and the VCS community.

The role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence the future of urban regeneration in Stockport. You will be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation, contributing to the development of the Council’s priorities and corporate strategy to deliver excellent and inclusive services. Your efforts will help realise the objectives of ‘One Heart, One Home, One Future’ for the residents and communities of Stockport.

Join us in making a lasting impact on the community and positioning the MDC as a national leader in sustainable, community-driven town centre regeneration
