Crynodeb

We recognise the challenges that people with protected characteristics may experience on the job market and in their career progression. We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities. We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as possible, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities, people with a disability, and people with gender diverse identities.

Would you relish the chance to be involved in making a difference for disabled people on the UK’s transport network?

Do you have great organisational skills and enjoy building positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders?

If so, we would love to hear from you!

The Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) comprises a broad range of experts in transport accessibility and inclusive travel, many of whom have lived experience of disability or non-visible impairments. The Committee provides advice on policy across all modes of transport.

This role sits in the Accessible and Inclusive Travel Division (AIT), within the Bus and Inclusion Directorate, part of the wider Public and Transport Local Group.

As the Joint Head of DPTAC Secretariat (jobshare), you will lead on embedding robust and efficient governance mechanisms and controls across the Committee, and on managing a regular rhythm of Main Committee and sub-Committee meetings effectively. This will involve working closely with a number of senior stakeholders, including DPTAC’s Chair Professor Matthew Campbell-Hill. Reporting to the Head of Accessible Travel, you will have line management responsibility for a small team comprising the secretariat management functions.

If you pride yourself on being organised, able to manage competing priorities and an excellent relationship-builder, then this role is for you. This high-profile interesting and demanding role is rewarding and offers a fantastic opportunity to have a direct influence and make a positive difference towards accessible travel.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Establish and maintain governance structures and processes for the oversight and coordination of DPTAC’s work programme and general activity.
  • Create and maintain a coherent forward work programme that is informed by new policy developments and ministerial priorities.
  • Facilitate appropriate contact between DPTAC and ministers, as well as officials within DfT and across Government, encouraging constructive relationships and collaborative working.
  • Provide effective leadership of the DPTAC Secretariat Team, delivering a strategic and professional programme of Committee meetings.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure work is completed in times of high pressure or leave, including providing resilience to other team members.
