PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FULL DUTIES OF THE ROLE. This is an innovative role for a qualified physician associate (PA) who has already been successful in the national certification exam and holds PAMVR status. The role will require working across a 7 day shift based rota. The role will be part of a physician associate team within the Emergency Department (ED). The PAs will provide expert assistance to the multidisciplinary teams within ED to ensure the provision of a high-quality service to patients. The post holders will work under the direction of a supervising Consultant and mentor, working collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trusts policies and clinical guidelines. The purpose of the role will be to: Deliver high quality, evidence based clinical care across the ED footprint, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and under the supervision of the relevant consultants. Practice according to high standards of professional behaviour. Work within local guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure standards of governance and patient safety. Elicit a comprehensive and/or problem-focused history and perform a complete and problem-directed physical examination. Formulate a differential diagnosis and patient-focused management plan of care. Initiate, review and undertake treatment and therapy plans in keeping with local and national guidelines. Perform basic clinical skills subject to relevant training and experience, such as venepuncture, blood cultures, cannulation, ECG, arterial blood gases and catheterisation. Develop additional clinical skill relevant to the ED with support from the MDT. Undertake appropriate laboratory and radiological investigations and interpret their findings. Demonstrate proficient use of departmental IT systems and undertake concise and appropriate documentation. Fully document all aspects of patient care and complete the required paperwork to a high standard for legal and administrative purposes.
