The Mental Health & Safeguarding Adviser will be accountable for helping Aston students manage any issues or challenges that affect their ability to study. The team assists students experiencing significant difficulties which affect their mental wellbeing, their ability to live safely or well, and which affect their ability to successfully study or engage. Reporting to the Head of Welfare and Safeguarding, the post holder will work together with colleagues across Student Life as well as the wider University, managing a caseload of students individually with skill development, overcoming barriers, and achieving personal goals to improve their mental health or welfare. They will assess risk in emerging safeguarding or complex mental health or welfare presentations, manage referrals, and monitor outcomes.
Our model of mental health support is based on culturally-sensitive, anti-oppressive, holistic principles of care, whilst providing bespoke and individualised interventions. The team is dedicated to working proactively with diversity, race, and equality issues.
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in other teams to develop and deliver wellbeing and psycho-educational workshops and group sessions, and will contribute to wider service and university goals and initiatives.
Joining our team will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work in an exciting and diverse educational setting, helping students along their journey as they cope with the wide range of academic, social, and financial challenges that they may experience whilst studying.
