The Eye Department in Leeds, which is based at St James University Hospital (SJUH), is looking for a Specialty Doctor in Glaucoma in a substantive post. The post holder will be working with the four Glaucoma Consultants working within the department. The Glaucoma department in Leeds is based at Seacroft hospital where the clinic/virtual clinics are undertaken. Surgery takes place at St James Hospital. We perform a wide range of surgery including trabeculectomy, tube (Ahmed valve) and MIGS (currently iStent and Preserflo with plan for Hydrus in the near future). The post holder will be part of the senior clinical team to support the delivery of a high quality and specialist glaucoma service. The post holder will be expected to participate in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of glaucoma patients in an outpatient setting and virtually, and will also assist in the operating theatre and will be involved in complex and specialist glaucoma surgery, SLT and YAG laser. There is likely to be the opportunity for the post-holder to keep their cataract surgical skills up to date by covering theatre lists as well as providing general or emergency clinics where necessary. He or she will complement existing Specialist Trainees and will be also expected to teach and train junior colleagues. MEDICAL STAFF IN THE DEPARTMENT Glaucoma Consultants Mr Peter Galloway, Consultant Ophthalmologist Miss Salina Siddiqui, Consultant Ophthalmologist Mr Simon Dewsbery, Consultant Ophthalmologist Mr Edward Ridyard, Consultant Ophthalmologist The team also trains Ophthalmic specialist trainees from the region. There are 20 other subspecialist consultants in the wider Ophthalmology Department. The appointee must have completed at least one 12 month period of Glaucoma subspecialty training within a higher surgical training scheme after full GMC registration or equivalent.
