Applications are invited for the position of Deputy Chief Pharmacist. Royal Marsden Hospital.

The Royal Marsden is one of the largest cancer centres in Europe with an enviable reputation for the quality of care it provides, and the volume of research undertaken.

The pharmacy department comprises a team of over 200 staff working across our 2 sites in Chelsea and Sutton.

The deputy chief pharmacist will support the chief pharmacist in the leadership and management of the service, while having an operational management role for one of the core pharmacy services.

Interviews will be taking place on Friday 8th November.

• Take responsibility for leading the strategic and operational management of one of the core pharmacy services. Including full responsibility for the leadership and management of staff in this service and financial oversight/accountability.
• Deputise for the Chief Pharmacist and take corporate responsibility for the pharmacy service aligning the pharmacy vision with the RM strategy and leading the team to focus on key priorities
• To act as the initial point of contact for staff in response to issues concerning pharmacy and wider medicine management issues. Works with and through others on resolutions
• To provide advice on highly complex matters pertaining to the use of medicines, to the Executive Team and wider teams as necessary gaining agreement and co-operation. Uses specialist pharmaceutical knowledge and experience to make recommendations.
• Within the service for which they are responsible to act as lead for clinical governance and risk management.
• With the Chief Pharmacist drive the design and delivery of the vision and strategic priorities for the pharmacy service, ensuring alignment with the overall Trusts plans.
• Operationalise the strategic vision of the future, encompassing trends in Pharmacy, technology, funding and workforce.

• Lead strategic planning within the pharmacy service and influence more widely across the RMH by providing expert/specialist guidance and advice to project teams across the trust, while also calling upon and using the other members of the pharmacy leadership team.
• To deputise for the Chief Pharmacist and provide expert advice in relation to all matters pertaining to the safe and effective use of medicines.
• To lead on the development of systems and processes to enhance the operational and strategic use of medicines at RMH.
• Use opportunities to include Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), including patients, family members, carers, and the public to help develop and improve pharmacy services within RMH in a meaningful and informed way.
• Interpret broad clinical / professional policies and NHS guidance to ensure that Pharmacy practice remains contemporary and relevant components of the overall Pharmacy strategic plans are appropriately updated.
