Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our fantastic team here in Rochdale Infirmary.

The post holder will join an active and enthusiastic team of Ophthalmologists, Specialist Nurses, Advanced Practitioners, Technicians and Orthoptists, all providing care in the fields of Oculoplastics, Medical Retina, Vitreoretinal, Cornea, Glaucoma, and Paediatric Ophthalmology.

We provide a purpose-built Ophthalmic unit. The outpatient department has a general clinic suite, glaucoma suite, macular clinic suite and an orthoptic suite. There are 2 operating theatres which are equipped with floor standing operating microscopes and phacoemulsification machines Alcon Centurion. Both theatres are exclusively for the use of the ophthalmology department. The service has strong links with ECLO and third sector support.

The Trust currently provides Ophthalmology outpatient services at Oldham Integrated care centre, Rochdale Infirmary and Fairfield General Hospital. All day case surgical activity takes place at Rochdale Infirmary. This post will require some cross-site working across these sites.

We would welcome an opportunity to show you our unit and to discuss with you how we are working to improve the care that we provide to patients.

The Ophthalmology service is available Monday to Friday for all outpatient attendances and emergency cover is provided by attending at an A & E or Urgent Care department.

This post involves providing on call cover on a 1:8 basis.

The successful applicant will work at the level of a Senior clinical fellow and will take part in a varied timetable. The weekly timetable also includes Oculoplastic, Casualty and other subspecialty clinics and this can be partly tailored according to the post holder’s clinical interests.

You will have a broad knowledge of Ophthalmology, including a sub-specialty interest in ophthalmology in order to complement existing services. It is a requirement to hold full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid license to practice. Ideally the post holder will be on the GMC specialist register (Ophthalmology).
