Crynodeb

• To provide excellent individualised and unsupervised nursing care. To utilise and further develop advanced clinical specialist skills in order to provide the highest standard of individualised patient care.
• The post holder will play a key role in developing the transitional care unit based on the postnatal ward.
• This will involve working within a team of neonatal staff, Band 7 and Band 4, coordinating and communicating with the midwifery team.
• The Staff Nurse will be required to maintain a quality family centred and supportive environment where parents/carers can learn to care for their babies.
• They will also be required to utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with family/carers, the multidisciplinary team, and pertinent agencies outside the organisation.
• The Staff Nurse should actively contribute and participate in the clinical management of the area.
• To act as a mentor, teaching and supervising junior staff including, student nurses, student midwives and health care support workers

· Medication administration – IV, IM, PR and orally.

· Performing observations on babies as required.

· IV venepuncture and cannulation.

· Taking of routine bloods and gases as required.

· Supporting with lumbar punctures.

· Breastfeeding support.

· Liaising with Midwifery Team regarding discharges.

· Liaising with NNU regarding transfers of babies either to/from the unit or postnatal ward.

· Completing BadgerNet summaries.

· Supporting and communication with junior members of the medical and nursing team.
