The Clinical Pathology Specimen Reception department at Nottingham University Hospitals provides a pre-analytical service, receiving and handling biological samples for patients across Nottingham. This service operates 24 hours per day, every day of the year, providing critical patient care across the Trust and the whole of Nottingham.

Specimen reception is the first point of contact for samples arriving within Clinical Pathology. The section is looking to recruit medical laboratory assistants (MLAs) to support this service.

You will be required to participate in the 24 hour shift pattern, 7 days a week. Applications from hardworking, enthusiastic individuals with a keen eye for detail are welcomed. Please do not apply if you are unable to work shifts.

The main duties of the role are to perform pre-analytical reception and processing duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of blood samples for analysis. Accurate entry of patient demographics into the laboratory software. Loading of samples on to laboratory equipment. Performing general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, general cleaning and waste disposal.

The post holder will provide support to the scientific and medical staff within the department. The main duties of the role are to:

Perform sample reception and processing duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of samples for analysis, loading of samples onto analysers or other laboratory equipment and sample archiving

Perform clerical tasks including data input of patient demographics and test request information

Perform general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, general cleaning and waste disposal

The post holder will be required to work at both City and QMC Campus; the role covers both sites
