This is a fantastic opportunity to apply for a senior leadership position at the Environment Agency. This is a great place to work if you want to make a difference in improving our environment and building a sustainable future.
Working with the Environment Agency means protecting and improving the environment for generations to come, tackling issues of national importance across a variety of disciplines.
We’re grouped into 14 areas across England, and our responsibilities span major industry regulation, flood defences, land contamination, water quality, fisheries and conservation. Such a broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams and exceptional leadership: together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change and secure a better future for everyone.
Candidates will have the opportunity to find out more about the role as there will be a virtual briefing session on Monday 14th October at 11:00. Invitations can be acquired by emailing: Rebecca.allen@environment-agency.gov.uk.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, inspirational and innovative individual to join our Deputy Director cadre to lead and grow our Strategy Team of c10 staff. The team has a very broad reach and influence across the Environment Agency and is fundamental to the organisation’s future.

The team will also address fundamental questions about the future of the environment and the Environment Agency, leading bespoke strategy projects of particular value to the organisation, and helping to lead the organisation through important milestones such as spending reviews.
You will bring skills in strategic thinking, senior relationship building, and communication. Working with leaders across the organisation, government and a range of external stakeholders, you’ll present evidence to decision makers in a compelling way, including to the EA’s Executive Directors Team and Board.
This role requires a proven leader who can work with complexity at a strategic and senior level, influencing and shaping organisational direction. You will be adept at influencing, bringing to together insight and evidence to create clarity of message and direction.
The Team
You’ll be working withing the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance (STA) Directorate reporting to our Director of Strategy. STA is at the heart of the Environment Agency. Its passionate and skilled people provide national-once services to enable our organisation to thrive.
