Job Description
We are looking for a hard-working Democratic Services Officer to join our small team.
You will be involved in all aspects of Democratic Services work, including the preparation of reports and agendas, attendance at meetings and the preparation of Minutes and more generally ensuring that all meetings are administered effectively and efficiently in accordance with the Council's Standing Orders and other key governance documents. You will also be involved in a number of non-committee related duties.
Educated to SVQ4 or equivalent level in Business Administration or similar discipline, you will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience within a Democratic Services setting, knowledge of meeting procedures and practices, and an awareness of and sensitivity to the political environment of meetings administration in a local authority.
An experienced PC user, you should have a high standard of written and interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, and be able to work both on your own initiative and as an effective team member. Whilst the majority of meetings are held during office hours and in the Council Headquarters, you will also be required to attend meetings in various locations across the authority from time to time, some of which will be outwith normal office hours.
You will also be part of the Council’s election team which will require you to work for lengthy periods including irregular hours and possibly at weekends during election periods.
*Depending upon the needs of the service, staff in Hybrid roles will typically work from home for up to 40-60% of the time where the needs of the service can still be met.
