Home, a place where you belong
We have a brilliant job opportunity for a Handy Person in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area to look after Tyneside Foyer and our Dispersed properties. You will be based at the Tyneside Foyer 5 days per week and be part of our small but mighty Maintenance and Housekeeping Team. You’ll be meeting and working with different people each day, so no day is ever the same!
The properties you’ll look after
There are 72 rooms within the Tyneside Foyer and 9 Dispersed properties - just the small task of 81 properties! There are 52 bedrooms with ensuites, 20 self-contained flats and 9 properties out in the West end of Newcastle. There are shared communal areas too, which is why you’ll be working alongside another member of the maintenance team who is a qualified joiner and knows a thing or two about the Foyer and what it takes to maintain.
Fancy going home each day knowing that by doing a small job you’ve made a big difference to someone, great, then this is the job for you. By the way, …we’re in the top 10 for Great Places to Work in the UK!
Typical day as a Handy Person
- One day you could be painting a room ready for a new person coming into the service, the next you’ll be building furniture and putting up shelves.
- Once you’ve settled in, you’ll be expected to attend the daily meeting each morning to understand the priorities of the upcoming rooms.
- Following the repairs log to either complete the minor jobs or reporting these to an external contractor.
- Be ready to react to minor emergencies. Examples include repairs to doors and locks, minor plumbing repairs like changing tap washers.
- A keen eye and hand for any internal decor, you will be a dab hand with a paintbrush.
- As we work tightly with other services in the Newcastle area, if they need a hand we’ll ask that you support where possible!
