Key Responsibilities: Managerial Manage and schedule, on a day-to-day basis, the workload of the Technical Services Unit in accordance with the established policies of the Unit. Ensure the timely preparation of extemporaneous items, which include non-sterile, sterile and chemotherapy products. Supervise all technical and support staff working in Technical Services. Perform Individual Performance Reviews for Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants. Ensure the accurate completion of worksheets, batch records and registers by all staff in the unit. Direct and supervise pre-registration and junior Pharmacists working in Technical Services. Manage and schedule the work of the pre-packaging service. Participate in the recruitment and selection of new Technical and Assistant Technical staff. Participate in planning and developing enhancements to the service provided by Technical Services. Contribute to departmental forward planning. Confirm staffing availability and ensure any absences are covered. Authorise annual leave for allocated staff. Technical Services Perform documentation and calculation checks on chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition and sterile product worksheets. Perform assembly and in-process accuracy checks on chemotherapy drugs, parenteral nutrition and sterile aseptically prepared products. To undertake the duties of an Accredited Product Approver and to perform final accuracy checks and release checks on a range of aseptically prepared products. Perform final accuracy checks on batches of re-packaged and over-labelled medicines before testing and release by Quality Control. Prepare chemotherapy, sterile and non-sterile preparations, for specific patients in a laminar flow cabinet / isolator in a controlled clean room environment eg Parenteral Nutrition and chemotherapy treatments. Dispense controlled drugs and ensure that all necessary legal records are accurate and up-to-date. Maintain the essential training and competencies required to be a named person on the Trust Intrathecal Register for dispensing and releasing intrathecal chemotherapy. Maintain competency to prepare sterile preparations and to keep up to date with validation processes. Maintain adequate stocks of chemotherapy drugs and equipment. Investigate any problems in the availability of all drugs used in Technical Services and take appropriate action. Monitor the environmental parameters relating to the functioning of the unit and report any defects to the Technical Services Pharmacist. Perform formulae and calculation checks on non-standard product worksheets for non-sterile extemporaneous products. Design and create master worksheets and labels, for later generation by Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians. This involves the use of specialised labelling software. Ensure completion of all procedural documentation and collate statistical and drug usage information on a monthly basis for the Lead Pharmacist. Contribute to the development of operational procedures, implement and monitor their operation and ensure staff are aware of and adhere to procedures. Help update the Technical Services Procedure Manual with the Lead Pharmacist Technical Services. Assist with the implementation of internal and external audit recommendations.
