Salary: £30,742 - £47,238.20, dependent on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen at a leading Independent School based in Cardiff for a Head of Biology starting in January. Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the successful candidate will be be able to demonstrate the ability to inspire and develop pupils and will have demonstrable experience in delivering strong results, particularly in KS5.

At GCSE, the majority of the pupils study the separate science pathway and KS5 uptake in Science is the highest in the School. The Science Faculty, which is noted for its academic success, currently comprises 11 teaching staff, and 3 technicians, covering all three disciplines. It is the aim of the team to get pupils to reach the highest possible standard that they can achieve, ensuring that they are well prepared for both internal and external examinations, higher education and the world of work.

Specifically the post holder will:

➢ lead and manage the Biology Department, upholding the outstanding standards of teaching and learning for pupils across Key Stages 3, 4 & 5.

➢ To ensure the efficient running, development and performance of the Biology department,

supporting all members of the department in their responsibilities, and directing, as appropriate, the work of those colleagues to ensure successful and effective teaching and learning.

➢ Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people with regard to our internal Safeguarding policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will have:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally with a PGCE or Certificate in Education.
• Management experience, ideally within an educational setting.
• A proven track record of producing creative learning solutions using a combination of software packages including Office 365.
• Strong project management skills
• Good understanding of external pressures and opportunities within an e-Learning context.
